Spearmint Oil

INCI: Mentha Viridis Leaf Oil
Spearmint

If you are looking for the strongest mint taste and all the anti-microbial muscle power that natural mint has to offer, then you will lean towards peppermint. But, for the rest of us spearmint, peppermint’s milder sibling has a gentler fresher taste and is less volatile as spearmint contains lower amounts of menthol.

Spearmint oil as with most essential oils, is steam distilled. The healing properties of many mint leaves are condensed into a small amount of essential oil. So, use sparingly.

Spearmint has been used for thousands of years for it’s anti-septic and healing properties as well as it’s taste. It is recorded as being used in Ayurvedic medicine and has a shared history with Oil Pulling. It has been used to alleviate migraines, fatigue and to protect wounds from infection.

You can easily distinguish spearmint leaves from peppermint leaves by their more textured surface and smoother tips.

We use organic spearmint oil in our Oil Pulling formulas rather than artificial mint flavouring not only because of it’s natural fresh taste, but because of it’s powerful antimicrobial qualities.

Spearmint’s antiseptic properties help protect mouth ulcers and lesions from infection and can help them heal more quickly.

Suspended in a base of coconut and sesame oil, the spearmint oil can be safely exposed to the whole mouth.

Please note: Although in small amounts, spearmint and peppermint contain Linalool and Limonene which are allergens.
